We're offbeat, and you can dance to it...

Our repertoire is based on the Afro-Brazilian music culture called Maracatu, which developed in Pernambuco (North-East Brazil) and has its roots in the musical  traditions of African slaves.

Maracatu RENASCENTE is not the traditional (Maracatu de Baque Virado), but the experimental form of this style.

Our music is based on instruments like alfaia (wooden bass drum), abê (gourd-shaker), caixa (snare-drum), timbal (hand-drum), gonguê (iron bell) and mineiro (shaker).

 

By adding other instruments and traditional genres like coco, forró, ciranda - sometimes even capoeira performances are part of our shows - as well as our own musical backgrounds, our repertoire is growing all the time ...
